Air Covers Automobile Fair 1998 in Paris

We are all fascinated by the enticing act of disguise and subsequent uncovering.

Aircovers - Automobilsalon 1998 Paris

A light and transparent box made of delicate fabric will not reveal the shape and color of the hidden object.

The gimmick is based on a cleverly devised pneumatic based uncovering technique. The fabric is attached to a frame made out of a light, but robust pipe made of carbon fiber. The supporting pillars are very light compression hoses filled with helium. At the moment of the uncovering the supporting hoses are opened to the top at lightening speed so that the helium gas can evacuate without causing any danger. Subsequently the pillars lose their supporting power - and the frame and the fabric fall vertically to the ground.

Premiere

For the automobile fair in 1998 in Paris the Volkswagen AG Germany ordered five boxes being 4.7 to 5.9 meters long and 1.5 to 2.5 meters wide with a height of 2.5 meters, adapted to the size of the objects to be uncovered.
